Prizes!

Perhaps the most exciting thing about this challenge is the chance to vote on the poem you love the most (even if it’s your own!) and to encourage others to vote, too! That vote will determine the top three poems by public opinion, and the writers of those poems will recieve*:

1st Prize: The chance to have your poem made into a book!

The lovely Christina Gay has agreed to dedicate her time and talent for this top prize. She’ll take the winning poem and turn it into a custom book that brings the words into a concrete form (like this one!). For some examples of her past books, check out the images below or visit her website.

2nd Prize: A beautiful handmade journal to house your thoughts and your poems

This prize comes courtesy of the delightful Jenny O’Grady. She’s donating one amazing hand-made journal to become the home for the lucky winner’s thoughts, poems, or grocery lists (books love to be written in; they don’t really care so much what it is that you write.)

3rd Prize: A photo inspired by your poem and taken by Avelino Maestas

Avelino Maestas, photographer extraordinaire, has agreed to contribute a custom photo inspired by the winner’s poem. He’ll also print and mail the photo. To see more of his work, visit his Flickr page.

4th Prize: A $15 gift certificate to Powell’s Books

One lucky winner will get an electronic gift certificate to Powell’s Books to help them grow their library–be it poetry, prose, or cookbook. As a disclaimer, I am donating this gift certificate, and Powell’s is not connected with or an endorser of the challenge.

*A note on eligibility–Because prizes will be awarded based on popular vote, the folks donating prizes are eligible for the challenge, but they are not eligible to win the prize they themselves have donated.
